Oaxacan Tin Catrina
Day of the Dead coincides with All Souls Day on the liturgical calendar and Halloween on the folk calendar. During the 19th century, Jose Guadalupe Posada used skeletons to satirize Mexican society in editorial cartoons. His work inspired generations of folk artists who make them for Day of the Dead festivities. These tin catrinas are handcrafted in Oaxaca and remind us of earthly pretensions while making us laugh at the same time. Each catrina measures approximately 3 1/2" x 9 1/2" tall. As with all of our unique handcrafted Mexican folk art items, please allow for some variation in color.
