3" Huichol Beaded Prayer Bowl - Blue Deer & Peyote
Created by the Huichol Indians, a small tribe of approximately 10,000 Indians living in central western Mexico, this prayer bowl is made by overlaying a form with a beeswax and resin mixture, then placing tiny glass beads on the sticky base, by hand, one at a time, until the pattern is complete. The prayer bowl is made from a gourd, which is said to hold visions and inspiration to celebrate life. The Huichol create these sacred objects of beauty as a way of honoring the life-giving forces of the universe. As part of our Mexican folk art collection, this is a one-of-a-kind piece.
